First Endoscopic Full Thickness Resection of the Stomach in Canada

Tumors in the muscle wall of the stomach have previously been done with surgical wedge resection.  Endoscopic full thickness resection results in removal of the tumor with less stomach removed than standard surgical approaches.  Dr. Eric Lam, upper GI surgeon Dr. Emile Woo and team performed a laparoscopic endoscopic cooperative surgery (LECS) performed this pioneering case at St. Paul’s Hospital.

This case was preceded by months of endoscopic and surgical planning in ex-vivo specimens.  This latest achievement reinforces SPARC’s commitment to bringing safe, innovative, minimally invasive resection techniques.
